Ideas for your Spring micro-wedding

by Ellen-Rose Brown

Spring is the season to look ahead to new beginnings, making it the perfect time of the year to exchange vows and kick-start married life with your partner. We’ve loved working with a number of couples at Spring time and seeing all the special touches they’ve put into making their spring themed wedding uniquely theirs.

With current government restrictions in place for weddings across the UK, micro-weddings continue to be a big trend for 2021 weddings. So, whether you are planning an intimate Spring micro-wedding or looking ahead to Spring 2022, we share our top ideas and tips for planning a Spring themed wedding.

Spring flowers for your micro-wedding

We love seeing how creative Wedition couples are with their floral wedding choices. Spring wedding bouquets are especially beautiful given the beautiful mix of delicate flowers and mix of colours from pastels to bold bright blooms.

When choosing spring flowers for your micro-wedding during the pandemic, be sure to choose locally grown flowers from a florist who works to supply sustainable blooms. By shopping locally, you will be supporting small businesses and ensure your floral displays last longer.

It’s also important to think about the meaning behind the flowers you add to your spring micro-wedding bouquet, perhaps you have a family favourite or a particular flower that is only found in the town you met your loved one?

If you’re struggling to pick we’ve chosen a few of our favourite spring bouquet combinations and the symbolic meaning behind each flower.

  • Regal Spring wedding bouquet - pair Lily of the Valley with white roses and white daffodils. A firm favourite with the British Royal family, Lily of the Valley represents happiness and luck literally translated as ‘return to happiness’. With white roses symbolising everlasting love and loyalty, and white daffodils reflecting new beginnings.
  • Rosy Spring wedding bouquet - If roses are your favourite flower why not have a whole bouquet of them and combine pretty coral, lavender and white roses to represent desire, enchantment and new beginnings.
  • Relaxed Spring wedding bouquet - If you’re looking for an informal and relaxed flower - consider pairing white tulips along with ranunculus. Did you know that tulips symbolise perfect or deep love?
  • Elegant Spring wedding bouquet - For a fresh and light bouquet combine sweet peas, fringe tulips, clematis and lilacs to symbolise gratitude and confidence.

Wedition Hot Tip: Your bridal flowers can be a great place to uphold the something old, something borrowed or something blue. Or to include something of sentimental value that includes your lost loved ones as part of your day. You could choose to add a grandparents wedding ring, photo of loved one or a special family brooch to your spring wedding bouquet.

Real Wedition Weddings: Wedition bride Emily styled her spring wedding bouquet to match that of her great grandmothers. To help bring the story to life for their guests, we included the story behind the flowers in a special article within her Wedition.

Cakes for your micro-wedding - traditional wedding cakes vs alternative wedding cakes

As your guest list will be smaller and more intimate at your micro-wedding, you’ll have a lot more opportunity to be creative when it comes to your choice of wedding cake.

You could choose to go down the traditional route but opt for just a few tiers. Theme your cake to match your Spring wedding, just like Wedition couple Amy & Michael who included cherry blossom and an Easter egg on their Easter weekend wedding cake.

If you’re looking for a unique alternative wedding cake, your smaller guest list gives you plenty of opportunity to choose a smaller scaled cake for your guests to enjoy. One idea is to place lots of micro-wedding cake replicas of your favourite desserts, like mini cheesecakes or lemon meringue pies. You could even place them on afternoon tea stands, so your micro-wedding guests can help themselves to the bite-size desserts. If you’d prefer to go down the savoury route, cheese wedding towers are a great indulgent treat for your special day.

Real Wedition Weddings: Wedition couple Zoë and James opted for a unique alternative to a wedding cake and had a macaroon tower by The Vanilla Cake Company. After their romantic Four Seasons Hotel proposal in Paris, the hotel staff bought out a tray of macaroons and red roses to congratulate the happy couple. The special meaning behind this alternative wedding cake was shared within the story of their proposal inside their Wedition.

Choose a Spring wedding theme and colour scheme

Spring weddings are known for soft pastels and bright bold shades. When trying to decide on a wedding colour scheme it works nicely when you combine a soft spring shade with a strong colour. A key trend we are anticipating for spring micro-weddings in 2021 is a colour palette that pushes boundaries using bright bold colours and abstract floral patterns. You can go all out with the use of these colours, or choose to use key statement floral centrepieces, framed photos of loved ones or bold iced cakes to incorporate your wedding colour scheme.

  • Rustic spring wedding colour scheme - combine dusty pink with terracotta and combine clashing patterned napkins with retro plates.
  • Combine bright spring yellow with ochre.
  • Be inspired by the Pantone colours of 2021 Ultimate Gray and Illuminating. Perfect to symbolise marriage these two colours highlight how two different elements come together to create a warm and positive colour scheme.

Wedition Hot Tip: When thinking about the colour scheme for your Spring wedding you can choose to pick colours that reflect the season. Or opt to combine your favourite colour with your partner’s favourite colour for a unique wedding colour scheme.

Real Wedition weddings: H&A had a yellow and grey colour scheme for their equestrian themed wedding, we loved creating a personalised wedding magazine to complement their day. We included the hen party details, proposal story, history of the venue, quizzes and a who's who of the wedding party.
