Something Old, Something new - Classic Blue | Pantone Colour of the Year 2020
by Liz GathererThe 2020 Pantone Colour of the Year is timeless and elegant, Classic Blue. Pantone suggest that this blue hue brings a sense of peace and fosters resilience. We feel that blue is a wonderful statement colour which is easy to work into your day and used in the right way will make a big impact.
We immediately thought of blue shoes peeking out from under the bride’s dress or funky white polka dots on blue socks on the groom! We also wanted to explore the wedding tradition of wearing “something blue” in more detail.

The tradition of wearing "something blue" on your wedding day dates back to the late 1800s and was a sign of fidelity. The old item provided protection for any children that the couple might have and the borrowed item (from another happy bride) provided good luck. The sixpence is a symbol of prosperity.

A number of Wedition couples have chosen to keep this age old wedding tradition and it has been wonderful hearing the stories of their something old.

Incorporating Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2020 Classic Blue as a part of your “something blue”
So many of our Wedition couples love to incorporate “something blue” into their day. We’ve seen Wedition brides wear blue garters, blue jewellery and blue shoes. You could wear ‘blue’ perfume too, you’d be surprised at how many are available, Dolce and Gabbana’s "Light Blue" and Bvlgari “BLV” (BLU) are just two examples.
Real Wedition Weddings: Robyn’s something blue was her incredible blue shoes which she purchased from Rainbow Club.
Wedition Hot Tip: if you can’t find a comfortable pair of shoes that really look the part, focus your efforts on finding a really simple and plain pair with a low heel, you can then take this to your local milliner who will more than likely be happy to embellish your shoes and customise them to the style that you want.
