Funerals and Coronavirus (COVID-19)

by Liz Gatherer

How to include family and friends in the bereavement process when they are unable to attend the funeral during the Coronavirus lockdown

Planning a funeral is an emotional and stressful time for all involved, planning a funeral during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown is even more challenging. I have a way for you to mourn the loss of your loved one in a beautiful and respectful manner, and to be able to include each and every person who you would have wished to be at the funeral service.

Planning a funeral during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown

Firstly, I would like to extend my condolences to you and your family, and to share my deepest sympathies with you. I have had personal experience with the difficulty and pain in planning a funeral during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown and I know how difficult a time it is. I would like to offer you a special and keepsake to remember your loved one, a keepsake that you can share with all the family and friends you were intending to invite to the funeral. This personal keepsake by no means replaces the act of saying goodbye, but I believe it is possibly one of the best ways to involve all who knew your loved one.

Involving family and friends who cannot attend the funeral during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown

I would be honoured to learn about your loved one who has recently passed and create a very special booklet to celebrate their life. A booklet that lets you say everything you would have wanted to share with others at the funeral. We can include the obituary, the stories and speeches that would have been read by relatives and friends during the service. We will of course include lots of wonderful photographs of your loved one and if there are any poems, readings of song words you wold like included, we can include those too.

If you intend to ask for charitable donations rather than flowers, we can include the charity information inside this beautiful booklet that you can send to family and friends who would have attended the funeral if it were not for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.

Funeral planning during Coronavirus COVID19 lockdown

Holding a memorial service for your loved one after the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown has lifted

Due to the limited amount of people* who are currently able to attend funerals during the Coronavirus lockdown, you may wish to plan a future memorial service once the lockdown restrictions have lifted. This would be very similar to a wake. If you intend to make a date in the future where you will hold a memorial service for your loved one after the Coronavirus lockdown has lifted then we can include this intention to do so within your booklet.

*The people who are able to attend the funeral during the Coronavirus lockdown period are members of the deceased person’s household, close family members and a celebrant. For up to date information, please visit the UK Government website.
