Real Weddings: Robyn & Alastair
by Liz GathererRobyn and Alastair’s love story is a long one, and as with all great stories includes: two perfectly suited but completely unaware love interests, a tragic event, many years of friendship, a few obstacles but ultimately a blossoming romance and a lifetime of happiness.
Wedding party gifts for a rustic dusky pink summer wedding
We adored the personal touches that Robyn and Alastair planned into their day. From the personalised hangers for each bridesmaid to the thoughtful personalised gifts given to the wedding party. Robyn gave her special ladies a personalised champagne glass and Alastair gifted a fun caricature hip flask to each of his groomsmen.
Something old, something new at a summer dusky pink rustic wedding
Robyn chose some fantastic pieces to complement her look and keep with wedding tradition. Robyn’s something old was a heart necklace from her brother Dale gifted to her on her 13th birthday. The something new was Robyn’s earrings and the something borrowed was Robyn's Mum’s diamond bracelet. And what can we say about Robyn’s something blue… take a look at her incredible shoes!
Tartan wedding garter
Robyn chose to wear a tartan garter which we thought was absolutely gorgeous! Many years ago, wedding guest superstition was that owning a piece of the wedding dress would bring them luck. Rather than have the dress ripped, brides would make a garter from a piece of the dress which they would give out as a lucky piece.
Remembering lost loved ones on your wedding day
Robyn and Alastair married at Holy Trinity Church in West End. The church holds dear sentimental value to the couple as 31 years ago Robyn’s parents were married there, Robyn was baptised there and her brother Dale is buried in the churchyard. During the first Christmas that Alastair spent with Robyn and her family, he said that if they were to get married it should be at this church so that Dale could be with them on their special day.
After the wedding ceremony, Robyn and Alastair shared a poignant moment together by Dale’s grave, dear brother to Robyn and childhood friend to Alastair. Robyn and Alastair set up a special place within their reception venue Ramster Hall so that Dale could be a part of their whole day.
Rustic wedding cake for a dusky pink summer wedding
The stunning cake was lovingly made by Robyn’s mum. The couple enjoyed many weeks of flavour tasting (yum) and decided on: indulgent chocolate; lemon and passion fruit; carrot cake; and traditional fruit cake.
Wedition Hot Tip: use your wedding cake as a centrepiece or focal point, don't hide it away in a corner somewhere! Make it stand out through its simple elegance or its funky design which will capture your guest's attention. Robyn and Alastair framed their cake with the grand fire place and artwork that their venue Ramster Hall had to offer.
Woodland tree theme for a dusky pink summer wedding
The couple wanted to incorporate Alastair’s connection to trees into the day somehow (Alastair owns a specialist tree care company - Aimis Treecare), Alastair designed and made the silver birch centrepieces and the couple worked in collaboration with their florist to create their stunning tables. The couple chose to name each table after a tree too.
A dusky pink and rustic personalised wedding magazine
Robyn and Alastair’s dusky pink and floral Wedition fitted beautifully into their rustic summer wedding. Along with their favourite couples photos we included their order of service for the church wedding ceremony, order of the day, the story of how Robyn and Alastair met along with their proposal story, history of the church and of Ramster Hall, an introduction to the wedding party, their wedding day details which otherwise might go unnoticed by the guests, an in memory of page and the honeymoon information.
Groom Alastair and one of his groomsmen handed Wedition out to the guests as they arrived at the church.
Review of a dusky pink and rustic Wedition
"When you first set out gathering ideas and planning a wedding, it’s common to focus on the “big things” first i.e. the venue, the caterers, the music etc. We met Liz at the first wedding fair we went to, we had a short chat and took away a sample Wedition. We decided pretty quickly (before we even chose our venue) that we definitely needed this for our wedding and without too much deliberation arranged an initial meeting with Liz to go through ideas, the process etc.
Ordering our Wedition’s was a “spontaneous decision” for us, we didn’t spend hours and hours debating on the decision or doing lots of research for comparables, we had a great gut feeling about Liz and her service and we just went for it.
Liz was great throughout the entire process, always there when we had a question or happy to give ideas if we were struggling. From the first draft to the final edition there were very few changes stylistically (just us changing content). Liz really understood our brief and produced something perfect for us.
We opted to use the Wedition as a favour for our guests and they were handed out in the church; so many guests came up to us after the wedding saying that they loved the Wedition, both in terms of the concept and the actual finished product, many asking where we had it done and if we were going to send out Wedition #2 after the honeymoon.
The Wedition was a no brainer for us and we would highly recommend Liz and her beautiful Wedition." - Robyn
