The story behind Wedition

by Liz Gatherer

Hiya, I’m Liz, pleased to meet you!

First off, congratulations on your engagement, sooooooo exciting! One thing you need to know about me is that I get very excited about most things but in particular I get very excited about weddings so it is a good job I managed to find a job to do within the wedding industry! I’ll tell you a little bit about me first and then I will answer the question that everybody asks, “Wedition is such a great idea, how did you come up with such an unusual wedding favour idea and why isn’t it being done already?!”

So who am I? Generally my friends call me ‘Lizzie’ and my friend's children call me ‘the chicken lady’. My husband and I are very passionate about our hens, all of them have been acquired from the British Hen Welfare Trust where we are volunteers as well as ‘poorly hen carers’. If you happen to come over to our home to take a look at your Wedition proof then you are most likely to get introduced to some hens, given some eggs to take home and filled with tea and homemade cake, all part of the service! Ky and I married in October 2016 at Farnham Castle in Surrey and this is what leads me on to the answer of the popular question:

“Wedition is such a great idea, how did you come up with it?”

I had a number of worries when thinking about our wedding day stationery and favours. I knew that printing out order of service sheets and menus could be expensive and they often just get left behind... not good for your pocket and not good for the environment. I have also been to a lot of weddings where the wedding favours had also not been appreciated, either because they were left behind; gobbled up and eaten; or they didn't really add any value or meaning to the day. I wanted to have an unusual wedding favour, something different, something that our guests had never seen before and a unique favour that they would want to take home with them and cherish. These thoughts kept whirling around inside my head. One of the reasons we chose Farnham Castle was for the fascinating history, we wanted to share some of this history with our guests, I thought about placing a piece of paper on each table with some interesting facts on. As we got deeper into the wedding planning process we realised there was an awful lot of detail and thought going into our big day. We acquired a John Wayne shoot out game, guests might think that a bit odd but it was the same game we bonded over the night we got to know each other as friends rather than just work colleagues. The eggs used in our wedding cake were laid by our own hens. We choose steel grey as one of our wedding colours to mark being together for 11 years at the time of our marriage. And then I had a light bulb moment, let's put all this into a magazine and then no one will miss a thing! All the guests would know the story of Farnham Castle and the reason we had so many seemingly random ideas for our wedding day and it would solve all our wedding favour worries and stationery issues all at once!

"Why does no one else do it? Why does no one else make personalised wedding magazines?"

I believe the answer to that is time. I spend hours, and hours, and hours……and hours…. on each magazine. I’m not sure business type people would say it is cost effective but I love it, I am passionate about producing these special and unique personalised wedding magazines for each of my customers and I am honoured to be part of this very special journey.
