Penton Park, a glorious Grade 2 listed mansion set in beautiful grounds in Hampshire, is a warm and welcoming family home available as a unique venue for exclusive weddings. This historic country house was originally built as a hunting lodge and was lived in by William Cubitt when he was Lord Mayor of London and Penton was his country seat. William hosted many famous people including Charles Dickens, with many rumours that Charles's daughter Mamie had some romantic dalliances. Many years later, Penton Park became a recuperation hospital for US airmen during World War II and then a girls’ boarding school. Penton Park certainly has many a story to tell. Today this Georgian country house in the rolling Hampshire countryside plays host to romantic weddings.

What's your favourite fun fact that you love to share with Penton Park couples?

One of my favourite things about Penton Park is the many different beautiful spaces and historical features, from the drawing room with its painted ceilings to the outside spaces with huge old trees. It’s the finer details and special touches of the venue and wedding couple that I love to include within Wedition. What’s you favourite fun fact that you love to share with wedding couples?

That there is a tunnel connecting the house to the village, we know where it exits in the village but cannot find the entrance at the house! We know it exists though as some of the older men in the village used to meet girls from the house when it was a boarding school at the tunnel... we ask every old visitor if they know where the entrance is but it still remains a mystery!

What is your absolute favourite location for an iconic wedding day photograph at Penton Park?

I love the first dance pictures where you capture the grandeur of the Ballroom with the chandelier as a backdrop, but also a chance to see all the guests faces.

Tell me about your bridal suite at Penton Park

This is our main guest bedroom that you can choose to book as a space to get ready. It's a beautifully restored south facing bedroom with views over the grounds, plus a luxury ensuite room to ensure plenty of space for everyone to get ready. We welcome you from 7.30am.

How do the Penton Park team make a wedding day so unique?

It's the personal welcome of the family that makes it so special, we only host 20 weddings a year and truly get to know each couple. By the time you are getting married you know us so well that all our couples are truly relaxed. I think this is one of the key differences compared to using a venue that does many more events.

What do wedding couples love most about their Penton Park wedding?

The family, the warm welcome, the giant Irish wolf hound, the cats meandering around and the home brewed ale!

It's such a wonderful way to share information with your guests, and also the most superb keepsake. It's a definite talking point and always puts a smile on peoples faces!

Is there anything else I should know about a Penton Park wedding?

We were listed on the London Evening Standard's 30 of the best wedding venues in the UK in 2018. We won the best countryside venue at The Wedding Industry Awards in 2018 for the South Central region, and were highly commended at The Wedding Industry Awards in 2019.
