Five steps to a stress-free wedding morning

by Ellen-Rose Brown

Waking up on your wedding day you are bound to feel excited and nervous, with people coming and going and the pressures of getting ready, it's easy to become overwhelmed on the morning of your wedding day. So, to ensure you savour this special time with your closest friends and family members, take a look at our five top tips for your stress-free wedding morning timeline.

Stay calm with a wedding morning timeline

The day of your wedding will fly by so to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible it's a good idea to create a wedding morning timeline for you and your wedding party. Important things to consider:

  • Will you be getting ready at home or the wedding venue? Make sure the room you get ready in has as much natural light as possible.
  • What time do your bridesmaids or ushers need to arrive? Will they be having hair and make-up done with you or do they need to bring items with them?
  • Allocate time for breakfast, champagne and the chance for photographs with your parents and wedding party.
  • Are there any tasks you'd like to allocate to the wedding party?

Creating a wedding morning timeline also ensures you give yourself time to get into your dress/suit calmly and still have chance to enjoy the moment. By informing your wedding party of key times and information you are less likely to be asked questions on the day that leave you feeling flustered.

Prepare the night before the wedding

It's easy the night before to get carried away and swept up in pre-wedding family celebrations but it's a good idea to go to bed relatively early so you feel refreshed and energised for your wedding day. Set aside some time to prepare your wedding day essentials; your wedding dress/suit, underwear, accessories and your overnight bag packed. Think about any gifts you need to pack for the wedding party and whether you want to shower that night or first thing when you wake up. Spending the time preparing the night before will ensure you are less stressed and panicked, giving you more time to relax and enjoy your wedding day. For brides who will be wearing a veil, it is a good idea to hang it up and spread it out so that any creases will fall out over the course of the night.

Delegate to your bridal party to reduce your stress

Last minute thoughts might pop into your head, who will give the button holes to the bridal party? Who can check the caterer has everything ready? How will we tidy the room for the photographer? Where is the photographer? You really don’t need to stress or worry at this point; your focus is on getting ready.

After all this is why you have surrounded yourself with your closest family and friends. Delegate these worries to your bridal party and give each Bridesmaid or Usher a responsibility to help reduce your stress, this will give you the chance to get ready in a calm manner.

Enjoy and take deep breaths

Be sure to go to the toilet before you get dressed, then a quick spritz of perfume or aftershave and you might want to pop some hand cream on as you hands are bound to be photographed! By following our guidelines your morning will be memorable for the right reasons. Whether you choose to listen to some music or have a few drinks to calm your nerves ensure you take time to appreciate the moment and those around you. If you aren't getting ready at the venue, be sure to leave on time it's always good to account for missed turns or bad traffic. Yes, brides are renowned for being a few minutes late but give yourself enough time to arrive in a calm manner as opposed to turning up in a stressed manner and leaving your guests waiting for ages. Whilst you wait to walk down the aisle it's normal to feel anxious or nervous and your body will naturally react, the best thing to do is to take deep breaths and imagine how happy you will feel being united with your partner at the end of the aisle. You wedding day will past you by so quickly that it's important to enjoy every second.
